Hydrographic Surveying (Hydrography) at Maracas Beach.
Water bodies, especially coastal areas need to be monitored, measured, and managed as this is a dynamic resource to our planet Earth. Important to coastal communities, marine animals, numerous flora and fauna, and tourism, our coastal areas require constant attention and sustainable practices, especially from prevalent anthropogenic activities. However, we need updated, valid, and accurate data which holds a wealth of information to perform critical decision making.
Hydrography involves the art and scientific practices necessary to capture the data essential needed by engineers, environmental organizations, planners, and governments for sustainable developmental practices. Here in the photo, you will see a dumpy level on a tripod (used to take beach profiles over time). In addition to being profitable from the ‘blue economy’, we as human beings owe it to our Earth to protect it – and therefore, it’s our responsibilities/ duty of care as a ‘people’.
