Blog
Join us on our NbS journey via our blog, as we explore ideas and concepts related to our project and work towards finding sustainable coastal solutions.
Sargassum
To better manage its impacts, a clearer understanding of how sargassum moves across the ocean surface is essential. Our camera system set up at Pigeon Point is an important tool for monitoring sargassum activity along the coast.
Capturing Wave Data
Coastal environments are constantly shaped by wave action. Understanding how waves behave near the coast is essential for flood risk planning, shoreline management, and evaluating how natural systems such as reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds help protect the shoreline.
Research and Training Week in Tobago
From April 6th through April 13th, Research Assistants, Simone, Fadia and Andrew undertook a series of research and training tasks with experts and key stakeholders alongside Engineering Technicians Alorne, Sharelle and Amrit.
Coral Reef Experiments in Imperial College, London
Principal Investigator, Dr. Deborah Villarroel-Lamb, recently traveled to Imperial College in London, UK, to conduct coral reef experiments in their wave laboratory.
Exploring Mangrove Modelling for Coastal Protection
Mangroves act as a natural barrier for Caribbean coastlines from the effects of climate change, absorbing and attenuating energy on the shoreline during intense hurricanes and storm surges. In order to fully investigate the integration of mangroves into nature-based solutions, we have implemented a series of laboratory experiments using a physical model of the mangroves.
